Artist Statement:
Kiku is a project-based visual artist from America. She works in many media including painting, woodcut, collage, and small sculpture. She is interested in using art as a mode of communication to break down barriers between people. While in Japan, she is especially interested in bridging the language gap through cultural and artistic exchange.
Exhibition Concept:
This exhibition involves help from artists in America and Japan, and anyone else who visits the gallery during the show! Visitors to the gallery can trade their own art for art in the show. Visitors can also pay to have their art taken back to America to be traded for the work of an American artist. The work of American artists will be mailed to the visitor's home in September.
This exhibition will be a great way to network, trade art, meet new people, and become part of an international art exchange project!
A web of visitors and artists will be painted on the walls of the gallery during the course of the exhibit. The entire exhibit, including a digital copy of the networking web, will be documented and continued after the end of the show, through this exhibition’s blog: h-ART-ajukuXchange.blogspot.com
